Title

Bringing My Childhood Forward

Materials and Techniques

handmade paper, acrylic paint, t-shirts, fabric, gel plate mono-printing.

These books are scrapbooks of my time at girl’s camp and on a trip to Guatemala. These trips/adventures were very impactful to me at the time, but now that I am older, I realized as I look back, I feel a bit of embarrassment toward who I was. Making these books was a way to remind me of why those events were meaningful to me then, and how they are meaningful to me now, even though I have changed a lot as a person. I was awkward and self-conscious, worried about what others thought of me, and afraid of being judged. I have grown from those emotions significantly and looking back on a time when those things were true helps me see how far I have come. This project has taught me that looking back at how I was as a child shouldn’t cause me to be ashamed of who I was then, only proud of who I have become, and how those times made me who I am today.
